Online sessions begin April 10th, 2012
Tuesday Nights April 10th - May 22, 2012, 7pm - 9pm CST, $325
This is for the more ambitious screenwriter. Past or concurrent enrollment in Story and Plot: Structure is required and Story and Plot: Improving The Read is highly recommended.
The First Draft class is an eight week online workshop with the primary focus being the completion of a detailed outline and perhaps even the entire first act of a script (the first 25-30 pages). This class allows the rare opportunity for the student to have their project, from the beginning of concept to a detailed outline, guided by a professional screenwriter adept at story development. The student will be advised on all facets of their project, from the marketability of the concept, the structure of the story, character growth, and much more.
The class will begin with more detailed examinations of the story and structure from successful as well as failed motion pictures. The students will simultaneously be proposing and developing their own ideas, both story driven pieces as well as more concept driven ideas that need more developed stories. Each student, guided by the instructor, will work on story outlines using the four act structure they learned in the previous two classes. Armed with a scene by scene breakdown, the students will write the first ten pages of their script, developing it with the class through several rewrites. Using the knowledge they learned by developing the story outline, the continued examinations of Hollywood films, and the first ten pages of their script, the student will then proceed to write their first act.
The class is combined with Story and Plot III: Short Films for two reinforcing perspectives on structure and scene design
